A new Pinnacle hip lawsuit, filed in California, is joining litigation against DePuy Orthopedics, an orthopedics manufacturing giant that is responsible for a number of products that have been the subject of lawsuits in recent months. The Pinnacle hip replacement system is one such product, and this new lawsuit is not unusual in terms of the others that have been brought against the orthopedics manufacturer. The plaintiff's Pinnacle Acetabular Cup System is, according to a complaint filed by the plaintiff's DePuy hip lawyer, the cause of certain side effects the plaintiff experienced after being fitted with the device.
Pinnacle hip lawsuit filed in California court
This lawsuit was filed in the California Circuit Court of San Diego on the 23rd of November, 2011. On January 13th, it was removed from this court and assigned to the district court in the Southern District of California. The plaintiff, Lisa Elston's, Pinnacle hip lawsuit was transferred in anticipation of adding it as a "tag-along" case in Pinnacle multidistrict litigation that is currently taking place in the courts of the Northern District of Texas.
Lawsuit cites revision surgery
Elton's DePuy hip lawyer has filed a complaint on her behalf that outlines the problems Elton had to undergo after being implanted with the DePuy hip replacement device. She initially received her implant in March of 2010, but is already being recommended to have DePuy hip revision surgery because the original device has shown signs of early DePuy hip failure. Revision surgery is performed when the first implant a patient receives is not adequate or causes the patient problems. It involves the removal of the initial implant. The patient is then fitted with a new device.
Average projected life of the original model of hip replacement systems is 10 to 15 years, but a number of DePuy patients are learning that they need revision surgery much earlier than this. The procedure can be complex and is associated with a number of risks, and so it is usually only performed when there are no other options available.
2010 DePuy hip recall pulls ASR model
Another device that has been linked to serious hip implant problems is the DePuy ASR hip replacement system. DePuy issued a voluntary recall of the product in 2010, but the Pinnacle device remains unaffected by any kind of recall.
